DONATE

What else do we do?*

Cancer is the number one cause of death in children.  Forty-three children are diagnosed with cancer per day.  This is unacceptable.  The only way to stop this is to support research.  Childhood cancers receive only four percent of the billions of dollars raised for cancer research annually.  We lost our Luke to a cancer that baffled doctors and it is time for tragic stories like his to end forever.  We will donate funds to organizations, such as St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, who are deep into the fight against childhood cancer.  Every child deserves a childhood.

Why donate to our cause?

A cancer diagnosis for any family is expensive.  With childhood cancer, parents are left trying to figure out finances, especially when they both traditionally work.  The loss of an income adds even more stress to an already stressful situation.

In cases where families have to commute for their child to receive treatment, the repeated costs of traveling away from home can be astronomical.   Besides the cost of hospital stays in general, the family is forced to eat and stay away from home and travel back and forth to keep their family’s emotional health as stable as possible.

The patients are faced with a new situation, one that has changed everything about their daily routines.  At some point, they will be away from home, away from friends and not able to participate in traditional school or other typical activities.  They are sick, afraid and oftentimes feel isolated.  They just want to be kids.

Our goals at Luke’s Legacy of Light take all of those things into consideration.  We want to help children and families by providing assistance with bills, giving gas cards and finding ways to make children smile again.
